After the 2007 season and the injuries to star offensive players, the Texans needed a spark to their offense, and it came in the third round in the form of a back from West Virginia. Slaton went on to be the steal of the draft by leading all rookies with 1,282 rushing yards and 1,659 yards from scrimmage.

#7- The Schuab Trade
After drafting David Carr with the first pick of the draft turned out to be one of the biggest busts in franchise history, the Texans looked for a new field general in Matt Schuab. Schuab turned into one of the greatest managerial decisions so far. Since becoming a Texan he has thrown for 10,054 yards and 53 touchdowns in three seasons, and he was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2009, winning the MVP award.
#6- The Hiring of Gary Kubiak
After firing Dom Capers, the Houston Texans went after a born and bred Texan, Gary Kubiak. Kubiak was the defensive coordinator in Denver under Shanahan, where as a quarterbacks coach the Broncos had 66,501 total yards and 465 touchdowns, the most in the NFL during that time period.
After coming to Houston he led the Texans to a .500 record for two straight seasons and then their first winning season in franchise history in 2009.

#5- 2008 Monday Night Football Win Over Jaguars
After coming off a win at the Browns, the Texans came back home to Houston to play on their first Monday Night Football game in franchise history against the Jaguars. In this old school smash mouth football game, the Texans scored the first blood and then just pulled away from Jacksonville. The final score was 30-17 with the backup Sage Rosenfels throwing for 200 yards and Kris Brown hitting three field goals, including a 50 yarder.
#4- Beating Miami in Miami in 2003
After the going 4-12 in their inaugural season, the Texans looked to improve in 2003. The Texans went to Miami to go on to upset the heavily favored Dolphins. In battle royale going back and forth it was Kris Brown's foot that won the game for the Texans 21-20, becoming the first expansion team to win their first two season openers.

In their first game at Reliant Stadium, the Texans were set to face their state rivals the Dallas Cowboys. David Carr came out on fire, throwing his first completion for a touchdown, and then a 65 yard touchdown to Corey Bradford for the 19-10 win. The Texans became only the second expansion team in history to be win their first game, only behind the 1961 Vikings.

The Texans could feel a winning season coming in 2009. It was just about time. The season started out on a downer losing their opening game to the Jets. But it turned around and they went 5-3 throughout the rest of the first half of the season.

For the first time ever then Texans where in play-off contention, however the Jets edged them out of the wild card with a win over the Bengals, but the Texans still had a winning record for the first time in franchise history.
